Dit was een van de drie bataljons oorlogsvrijwilligers (OVW'ers) met de bijnaam &quot;de Blijvertjes&quot;. 1-, 2-, en 3-15 RI werden in [[1948]] gevormd uit de OVW'ers die in de tweede helft van [[1946]] als laatste in Indië waren aangekomen, en daarna gebruikt om de al aanwezige (inmiddels uitgedunde) OVW-bataljons weer op sterkte te brengen.
