Bij het uitbreken van de [[Tweede Wereldoorlog]] was hij in militaire dienst. Het is (nog) niet bekend bij welk onderdeel hij diende en waar hij gelegerd was, maar hij werd door de Duitsers krijgsgevangen genomen en via [[Vorden]] afgevoerd naar Duitsland.
