Het insigne staat hiernaast afgebeeld op het bijbehorende erecertificaat.<br /> <br /> Het insigne werd uitgereikt op grond van een Ministeriële Beschikking van 2 oktober [[1950]], (Nr. 154739) getiteld ''Regeling betreffende gedemobiliseerde militairen, die in aanmerking komen voor het ontvangen van een erecertificaat en een demobilisatie-insigne''. De beschikking luidde:<br /> <br /> ''Om in aanmerking te komen voor uitreiking van een erecertificaat en het daarbij behorend Demobilisatie-insigne zal de gewezen militair van de Koninklijke landmacht in een tijdvak, gelegen tussen 15 Augustus [[1945]] en 27 December [[1949]] gedurende 6 maanden dienst moeten hebben gedaan op het grondgebied van het voormalige Nederlands-Indië en die dienst op goede wijze moeten hebben vervuld.''<br /> <br /> Op 11 november 1950 werd bovengenoemde periode van 6 maanden verkort tot 3 maanden.<br /> <br /> Het Demobilisatie-insigne is geen onderscheiding zoals het [[Ereteken voor Orde en Vrede]] dat is, maar is, voor zover het leden van de Koninklijke Landmacht betreft, wel voor vrijwel dezelfde groep militairen bedoeld.
