'''Johannes Josephus Swildens''' werd op 29 september [[1880]] geboren in Leeuwarden als zoon van Jacobus Johannes Swildens en Regina Franciska ter Horst.<br />

Swildens werd in [[1904]] priester gewijd. Komende uit Bornerbroek werd hij op 6 augustus [[1906]] kapelaan van de [[Pancratiuskerk]] in [['s-Heerenberg]], waar hij diende onder [[Münninghoff, Henricus Mathias Cornelius|pastoor Münninghoff]]. Hij was de opvolger van [[Harten, Hendricus Theodorus van|kapelaan Van Harten]].<br />

Swildens vertrok op 3 mei [[1911]] naar Rheden. Zijn opvolger in 's-Heerenberg was [[Sonsbeeck, Gerardus Antonius van|kapelaan Van Sonsbeeck]].<br />

Na Rheden heeft Swildens meerdere standplaatsen gehad, als kapelaan zowel als pastoor. Zijn laatste standplaats was Emmer-Compascuum. Als pastoor van die parochie uitte hij in [[1948]] de wens een Mariakapel te bouwen als de 24 soldaten uit Emmer-Compascuum die in [[Deelnemers Politionele Acties|Nederlands-Indië]] dienden, behouden zouden terugkeren. Dit is gebeurd, maar Swildens overleed voor de kapel op 24 juni [[1951]] werd ingewijd. Hij stierf op 70-jarige leeftijd op 8 december [[1950]].<br />

De Mariakapel in Emmer-Compascuum is nu een bescheiden bedevaartoord.<br />
